Martyn Margetson introduced as Club Patron
Crystal Palace and England Goalkeeper Coach Martyn Margetson introduced as Patron of Goytre United Football Club
PUBLISHED: 12th May 17

It gives Goytre United Football Club great pleasure in introducing Martyn Margetson as Club Patron.

As a young boy Martyn watched his dad Malcolm play in goal for our club, with Malcolm spending over twenty years playing in goal for the blues. It is an honour to have someone like Martyn who has achieved so much in the professional game associated with our club. The club has a deep affinity with the family going back over many years.

Martyn Walter Margetson (born 8 September 1971 in Neath) is a Welsh former professional footballer and Wales international, who is a goalkeeping coach for Crystal Palace and the England national team.

A youth player at Manchester City, where he went on to appear over 50 times, he spent time on loan at Bristol RoversBolton Wanderers and Luton Town before moving to Southend United on a permanent basis in 1998 where he remained for one season, joining Huddersfield Town in 1999. After signing for Cardiff City in 2002, he went on to win his first and only cap for Wales in a friendly with Canada in May 2004. He retired from playing at the end of the 200607 season, becoming a full-time goalkeeper coach at Cardiff City.

Martyn then followed Manager Sam Allardyce to West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

He now occupies the role of England Goalkeeper Coach as part of Gareth Southgates backroom staff.
